Protected activists focused on Tuesday along with the headquarters of the Edreams Council for Councils to condemn the complicity of the Spanish tourism company with Israeli occupation for the offer of tourist services in illegal settlements located on the west coast and maximums of Golan.
The concentration organized by the BDS platform (boycott, refusal and sanction) is aimed at making “social deviation from this practice”, in addition to the “direct conclusion of publications of any activity in illegal Israeli settlements”.
“Promoting tourism in illegal settlements is an active way of financing and legitimization of occupation and apartheid. While governments are involved in genocide, the private sector is actively involved and should give accounts. The responsibility of the business is necessary to terminate the genocide and protect the rights of the Palestinian people to exist and self -determination, ”-organization.
The multinational company based in Madrid, since 2021, seems to be the only Spanish company included in the list of united nations that conduct activities in the illegal settlements of the Israeli language in the occupied Palestinian territory. The calls indicated the companies “for the offer of tourism services, such as reserves of accommodation and transport in these settlements, which helps their consolidation and normalization.”
The complaint was received after the publication a few days ago from the report of the special speaker of the UN for Palestine Francesca Albanese, “the economy of occupation to the genocide economy.” The document analyzes the implementation of a business model, “based on an illegal profession”, in which numerous and recognized multinational companies from different sectors were profitable, including from the tourism sector that contribute to the “exclusion of the Palestinian population, the history of settlers and legal annexation”.
Since September 2022, Edreams has changed its business model to act mainly as an intermediary in hotels, that is, it does not belong to the rooms or directly hires hotels, but offers its customers housing, indicated mainly by Booking.com and, to a lesser extent, accelerated. He used to work with his own agreements with devices and, therefore, inclusion in the UN database.
Despite this, Edreams Odiego, the official name of the Business Conflome meat, standing behind Edreams, is accused of having benefited as an intermediary of publication and promotion on his platform of tourist premises listed by Booking.com in illegal Israeli colonies.
It is this Dutch company, currently belonging to the American group booking, that appears in the last report of the UN special speaker accused of three of its advertising supplies in the occupied areas of Jerusalem in the east after attacks on October 7.
Although Edreams does not look like a direct owner of these housing, the relief of their commercialization through his portal, as well as the lack of control over them and the lack of notifications about its location in the occupied areas makes the platform indirectly “accomplice” of the illegal profitable system created around the Israeli occupation, calls of DronnUct. A system that violates international humanitarian law and contradicts the numerous decisions of the United Nations, which condemn any activity that helps to establish the presence of Israels in the occupied areas.
Edreams Odiego issued an account only from April to December 2024 more than 14.5 million euros among various subsidiaries, and income reached up to 490 million euros and almost 7 million subscribers for their main model. It is positioned as one of the main portals on the Internet at the European level.
“According to international law, Israeli settlements in the occupied territory are illegal. Consequently, the income that was received as a result of the operation of these settlements for profitable purposes – for example, commercialization of tourist housing – implies illegal activities in accordance with international humanitarian international law, ”the activists condemn.
