Civil Guard agents belonging to the Technological Investigation Team (EDITE) of the Madrid Command, within the framework of “Operation Corsario Azul”, managed to identify and investigate the author of the events for a crime presumed to be linked to the market and consumers.
Thanks to the KODI multimedia player or center, which allows you to organize and reproduce different types of digital media (videos, images and audios) offline, online or streaming, researchers detected that one of the extensions or “add- on” created by a developer external to the platform, allowed you to watch Spanish first and second division football matches for free.
As described, the investigation focused on finding out where football matches were broadcast. By following the steps of the source code of the extension or “add-on” and after various searches for information, they managed to obtain said location, one of the most used instant messaging platforms in Spain.
Finally, in order to determine the authorship of the events, the investigation begins by focusing on the “nicknames” or pseudonyms that appear through the source code in the extension or “add-on” where the paid football content was broadcast for free. more than 78,000 members.
Finally, after downloading the extension or “add-on” from the platform, it was possible to verify that it belonged to a specific user and, after research in the different font databases, the author was completely identified.
The operation resulted in the investigation of a 37-year-old man for an offense linked to the market and consumers after the fraud of 42,547,104 euros; the blocking and deletion of all channels of the instant messaging application where the matches took place, as well as the removal of programming code used illegitimately.
