Spain It has some totally unknown charming trails. One of them is located within the Lobos River Canyon Natural Park in Castile and Leon. This enclave extends across the provinces of Soria and Burgos following the course of the river that gives it its name. Inside it is the road to the hermitage of San Bartolomé.
Route to the hermitage of San Bartolomé through the canyon of the Río Lobos
This trail is located in the Lobos River Canyon Natural Park. It is the easiest of the entire park and has a length of approximately 2.5 kilometers in all. In this one you will see the Romanesque hermitage of San Bartolométhe “Cueva Grande” and the “Balconcillo”.
The beginning of this route is located in the parking lot of this natural park closest to the Templar hermitage of San Bartolomé. The path is practically flat and very easy to do so it is perfect to do with the little ones. Plus, they’ll love seeing the vultures soaring, they can be seen with the naked eye!
Along the way you will see the most spectacular part of the Lobos River Canyon. You will be able to access the “Cueva Grande” or “Cueva de San Bartolomé” and take pictures in it “Balconcillo” viewpointa natural terrace where you can contemplate the hermitage and the cave.

This 13th century hermitage depends on the Bishopric of Osma and according to the Lobos River Canyon website, here are the visiting hours:
- From Easter: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, it is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Month of August until September 15: Closed on Mondays. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 3pm and from 5pm to 7pm. Sunday from 11am to 3pm
- From September 15 to the extended December bridge: Saturday from 11am to 3pm and from 5pm to 7pm. Sunday it will be open from 11am to 3pm.
The individual entrance has a price of one euro. On this site they advise to avoid periods of high public influx such as Easter, Pilar, August and some weekends.
In this natural park you can enjoy a wide vegetation. Juniper, juniper and black pine predominate as well as gall oaks and holm oaks. There are also aromatic plants thyme, lavender and sage.
