The National Court reduces the sentence of the pensioner who sent letters containing explosive devices to Sánchez

The Appeals Chamber of the National Court reduced the prison sentence of Pompeyo González, the pensioner of Miranda de Ebro who sent explosive devices to the president of the governmentPedro Sánchez, several ministers and the embassies of the United States and Ukraine in Madrid.

In the judgment to which LaSexta had access, the court underlines as its main argument that The ‘harmful capacity’ of the fireworks letters he sent was not ‘high’. The sentence is thus reduced from 18 years in prison to 11 years and 9 months in prison.

On July 23, the National Court Pompeyo González was sentenced to 18 years in prisonaccused of sending six envelopes containing explosive devices, in November 2022, to several institutions.

Concretely, among the recipients of these explosive letters were the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the directors of the EU Satellite Center in Torrejón de Ardoz and the arms company Instalaza in Zaragoza, as well as the ambassadors of the United States and Ukraine to Spain.

In their judgment, the magistrates sentenced Pompeyo González to 10 years in prison for crime of terrorism for eight years now offense of manufacturing, possession, placement and use of explosive devicesflammable or incendiary for terrorist purposes.

The judges considered that the accused acted with “the aim of causing great agitation in Spanish society” put pressure on the Spanish and American governments and other entities based on Spanish territory to stop supporting Ukraine in that state’s war against Russia.
