The National Court sets the trial of the Pujol “clan” between November 2025 and April 2026

The National Court established between November 2025 and April 2026 the trial which will take place against the one who was president of the Generalitat of Catalonia between 1980 and 2003, Jordi Pujoland against his children for creating an alleged criminal organization to enrich himself for decades through corrupt activities, using his political position. In an order procedure, the Criminal Chamber sets a total of 51 different sessions spread over six months, all starting at 10:00 a.m.

Jordi Pujol and his seven children are involved in this criminal case: Jordi, Josep, Oriol, Marta, Mireia, Pere and Oleguer. In addition, 17 other people will also be tried, including several businessmen. The court will be composed of judges Maria Riera, Carolina Rius and Maria Fernanda Garcia. The court itself excludes the summoning of the former president of the Catalan People’s Party as a witness Alicia Sánchez Camacho and postpones the decision to summon, among others, the retirement commissioner to court Jose Manuel Villarejo.

We must not forget that the judge Santiago Pedraz agreed in June 2021 to bring the entire family to the dock, with the exception of the wife of the former president, Marta Ferrusola -whom he exonerated due to her state of health after the defense presented a medical report in which he claimed she suffered from severe dementia-, as well as other people, including Mercé Gironesthe ex-wife of the Pujol’s firstborn, Jordi Pujol Ferrusolaand several businessmen.

All those investigated are accused of alleged crimes of illicit association, money laundering, continuous crime of falsification of commercial documents, crime of frustration in execution and up to seven crimes against the Public Treasury. To guarantee possible civil liability of the latter, he asked Jordi Pujol Ferrusola to file 7.5 million euros and his ex-wife, others 400,000 euros.

In this way, the instructor followed in the footsteps of the anti-corruption prosecution, directed against the entire country. clanasking 9 years in prison for the patriarch and up to 29 years for his eldest son, while the public prosecutor only targeted the firstborn, his ex-wife and another brother, Josep Pujol Ferrusolawhich earned them 25, 17 and four years in prison respectively.

In the order with which he ended the investigation, in 2020, the judge proposed to try the entire family for allegedly forming a criminal organization, taking advantage of their “privileged position of ascendancy in Catalan political, social and economic life for decades”, accumulating “excessive wealth directly linked to economic perceptions derived from corrupt activities”.
