“The new Aranda hospital will be a stimulus to attract talent”

“It’s a source of pride. There is no work of this magnitude economically throughout the Community. These are the words of the President of the Council, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, who thus mentioned the new hospital in Aranda de Duero (Burgos) under construction for a year and whose work he visited yesterday afternoon. More than 110 million euros to build “a state-of-the-art hospital” which, according to him, “will be a stimulus that will allow us to retain and attract talent”. A significant desire at a time when the main concern of health administrations is to retain and attract professionals, even more so when it comes to regional establishments, as is the case of Aranda.

The new hospital by the river This should become a reality, at least in its structure, in April 2027. It will then have to be equipped and it will take a few more months for it to finally be operational. Sacyl won the construction of the center, for 108 million euros (exceeds 110 with the development of the project) in July 2023, although the signing of the development verification document which marks the start of the work has not taken place than in October. of that same year. It is from there that we must count the period of 42 months that the winning company, FCC Construction, has to erect the building, which will replace the current Santos Reyes Hospital to cover a population estimated at 55,000 people distributed in 114 villages. from Burgos, Segovia and Soria.

It will be a “larger, more comfortable and technological” center -Emphasized Mañueco-, which will reduce by 30 percent the referrals of patients to other reference hospital centers in neighboring or less neighboring provinces, since it will have specialties that it did not have until now . In short, fewer transfers for patients and more quality and comfort, which should serve as a stimulus for the incorporation of new health professionals with more activity, with greater complexity and much more resolution.

The building It will quadruple the surface area of the current Santos Reyes Hospital. The number of professionals will also increase, as the President of the Council has argued, and the current portfolio of services will include more operating rooms; an intensive care unit (ICU) with eight stations; a 14-person dialysis unit and a peritoneal dialysis training room, as well as a new home hospitalization unit. In turn, all outpatient clinics, which increase from the current 27 to 43, will be integrated into a single building.

It is planned that emergencies will be located on the ground floor, which will increase from nine service points upstairs. and the health emergency basis is also considered. The first floor will include the examination rooms (which range from 12 to 25), laboratories, the ICU and the obstetrical block, near which the maternal and child hospitalization unit and laboratories. In this space, there will also be the surgical block, with five operating rooms (including two for major outpatient procedures) and a post-anesthetic resuscitation area which increases from three to nine boxes, the surgical day hospital, endoscopies and sterilization. The last two floors will be reserved for patient hospitalization. One of the most notable developments, Mañueco highlighted, is that this area increases the number of beds, increasing from the current 111 to 144, of which 18 will be intended for obstetrics and pediatrics.
