The authorization commission of the Municipal Directorate of Urban planning (GMU) of the Cordoba City Hall gave the green light on Tuesday to undertake the work of the second part in which the first phase of the redevelopment of the University Campus of Rabanales from the University of Cordoba (UCO). Its initially expected cost is a little more four million euros.
THE first part It started in October last year with a budget of 1.6 million euros and an execution period of 14 months. The works, carried out by the winning company Mebisa, are progressing these days with confirmation that they will continue with the license granted now for the second part, which will have to be the subject of a call for tenders and be awarded in the coming months after obtaining the license.
Precisely, this first phase was divided in two due to the high cost of the investment, which exceeded 5 million euros. Finally, this new work of the second part of the first phase of the the redevelopment of Rabanales will cost 4.3 million euros, according to the file to which ABC had access yesterday.
Thirteen million for the five phases
The Rabanales redevelopment project includes five phases. With this new license, the first phase would simply be completed. There would be four more left. The total price calculated was 15 million, although it now remains 12.9 million euros, without taking into account the increase in material prices over the last three years.
In fact, the heavy investment required again to execute the second part of this first phase, which now obtains a building permit, requires authorization from the Government of Andalusia to the University of Córdoba. Specifically, authorisation for the use of remainswhich determines the economic capacity of the future call for tenders. In 2024, the authorized money was 2.5 million. We do not yet know what will happen in 2025. This work will make it possible to renovate a space which had not been touched since the opening of the university campus in 1998.
The impetus for the Rabanales redevelopment file was carried out under the direction of Jose Carlos Gomez Villamandostoday advisor to the University of the Junta, but began his activity during the mandate of Manuel Torres as rector of UCO.
