The number of scabies in Azerbaijan has increased fivefold

Last year, 2,561 cases of scabies were reported in Azerbaijan.

Referring to official data published, Yenivaz.com reports that scabies cases have increased by 67% compared to the previous year.

Thus, in 2022, 1,535 cases of scabies were recorded in Azerbaijan.

For information purposes, let us also say that during the last 14 years, the incidence of scabies has multiplied by 5. 14 years ago, in 2010, 511 cases of scabies were registered in the country.

Most cases of scabies were reported in Siyazan and Khizi districts, as well as in Mingachevir city. There were 439 cases of scabies per 100,000 people in Siyazan, 192 in Khizi and 112 in Mingachevir. The lowest cases of infection were reported in Lachin district (1.3 infections per 100,000 people), Samukh district (1.7), Sharur district (1.8) and Kangarli district (2.1).

Please note that scabies is a disease caused by the scabies mite (Sarcoptes scabiei). Scabies is one of the most common skin diseases. The disease is contagious. You can easily get infected by contact, clothing, bedding.

The main symptom of scabies is itching and rashes on the skin. The rash appears as small dots in pairs and bleeds when scratched. These dots are the entry and exit routes of the tick into the skin. Sometimes the itching is so severe that it affects the patient’s nervous system. Often, without itching, nail remains are left in the skin. Infections and inflammation of the skin can even occur due to the itchy spots.

Sulfur ointment is used to treat scabies. This ointment is rubbed into the body 1-2 times a day for 4-6 days. Underwear and bed linen are not changed every day of treatment and washing is not allowed. After the specified period, the patient is washed with warm water and soap and underwear and bed linen are changed.
