The number of teams that will participate in the Formula 1 world championship may be increased from 2026.
Oku.Az reports that the eleventh team is expected to debut in the championship in 2026.
We are talking about the initiative of the Andretti family, well known in motor sports. Greg Maffei, director of Liberty Media, current owner of the championship and staunch enemy of this project led by Michael, son of world champion Mario Andretti, will leave his position at the end of this year, and apparently the family members have found a language with others organization officials.
It was said that the new team will debut with the support of the largest American automobile manufacturer “General Motors.”
An official announcement is expected to be made during next weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix (November 29-December 1), as the team’s main financial partners are said to represent Doha.
It should be noted that previously the “Andretti” team applied to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to participate in “Formula-1”. Although the federation valued the request positively, the owners of the championship did not allow the team’s debut.
