The spill comes from a spill that occurred yesterday evening during a barge-ship refuelling operation in the port of La Luz, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the spill is already two kilometres long and 400 metres wide despite its thickness. is less than a micron.

The presence of fuel oil is concentrated in the area of ​​La Restinga beach, already closed, while the maritime rescue service Salvamar Nunki has been working for hours to try to dilute the stain of fuel even if weather and sea conditions make the work difficult.

For its part, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also explained that it had updated the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMULPA) by activating the marine pollution alert.

In addition, the Government of the Canary Islands has updated the Territorial Emergency Plan for Civil Protection of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (PLATECA) to alert.

In this sense, the Regional Executive held a coordination meeting with the affected administrations to analyze the evolution of the oil spill and take the appropriate decisions.
