He Ophthalmology Service of the Integrated Care Management of Alcázar de San Juandependent on the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha, received the second prize in the category “Cases presenting a particular difficulty” in the prestigious competition Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).
The award was given for a video communication on an innovative proposal to address the complication of aqueous shunting during cataract surgery. The head of the ophthalmology department of the Alcázar de San Juan directorate, Dr. Fernando González del Vallewas in charge of receiving the award at the awards ceremony, which took place last Sunday in Barcelona.
The ESCR Congress brought together nearly 12,000 ophthalmologists from around the world, breaking an attendance record at this prestigious event. The event is recognized as one of the most important conferences in the world in the field of ophthalmology, distinguished by its relevance and prestige within the scientific community, the Council said in a statement.
The award-winning communication of the Mancha Centro hospital, which title “Misdirection syndrome in phacoelmulsification: a proposed staged surgical treatment approach” (Aqueous Derivation Syndrome: A Stepwise Proposal for Surgical Treatment), consisted of a video presenting a stepwise approach to resolving the complication of aqueous shunt, one of the most serious complications that can occur during cataract surgery.
Besides its first author, Dr. González del Valle, the other co-authors were the specialists: Esperanza López, José Manuel Zarco, Laura Riveira, Laura García-Filoso, José Manuel Calzas, Valentina Hadad, Eva Avendaño and José Juan Valdés.
