The opposition in Germany prepares for a “soon seizure of power”

The opposition bloc Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) is preparing to organize early parliamentary elections in March 2025. This was reported today, October 8, by the Bild tabloid, citing sources close to the leadership of the “ conservatives.”

The publication notes:

“The ruling coalition led by Olaf Scholz It is falling apart. Meanwhile, at the CDU headquarters, preparations for an early seizure of power are in full swing. Leaders, in particular, are perfecting their electoral slogans, political strategists are working on the “Agenda 2030” program with proposals for key reforms. “The work is reported to be almost complete.”

According to sources close to the CDU leadership, the second Sunday in March next year is considered the most likely date for holding early elections to the Bundestag. Thus, if the conservative plans come to fruition, the vote will take place six and a half months before the actual date of the federal elections (September 28).

“Germans want real political change and a centre-right majority is now more realistic than ever. The CDU/CSU bloc must strive to achieve that majority. Therefore, we must win over to our side, including the electorate of the (pro-Russian opposition) Alternative for Germany party.” — commented on the messages of the vice president of the CDU/CSU parliamentary faction in the Bundestag Jens Spahn.

As he stressed, the CDU/CSU seeks to form a governing coalition with the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP). President of the “liberals” and current head of the Ministry of Finance Christian Lindner I am also positive about possible cooperation with the “conservatives”. In a recent interview, Lindner did not even rule out an early dissolution of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s ruling coalition.

“The government must always ask itself if it is up to date with the changing times” – said.

However, as the provisional results of opinion polls demonstrate, to implement its plans and form a new governing coalition, the CDU/CSU bloc will need the consent of at least one more political force. Currently, the “conservatives” have the support of about 30% of voters, the FDP – 4%. Thus, to obtain a majority, the CDU/CSU will have to negotiate with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) of Chancellor Scholz or with its government colleagues from the Green camp.

“However, the CDU/CSU has objections to cooperation with both parties, especially joint work with the Greens,” the tabloid summarizes.
