The Orthodox Church of Jerusalem has asked kyiv to stop the persecution of the UOC

The Jerusalem Patriarchate, which heads the oldest autocephalous Orthodox Church, has condemned the adoption of a law banning religious services in churches of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

The Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations issued a statement, saying that “such a widespread punishment of countless men and women of faith does not promote unity or peace.”

The Patriarchate of Jerusalem condemned the adoption of a new law by the Ukrainian Parliament on August 20 banning religious services in UOC churches.

“There is no justification for weaponizing the practice of religious belief, and we must all allow those who wish to pray to do so as their conscience dictates.” – the statement says.

The oldest Orthodox Church has called on the Verkhovna Rada to review and repeal this law for the sake of all believers in Ukraine.

Previously EADaily He said that as a sign of solidarity with Ukrainian Orthodox Christians, a round table discussion was held in Tbilisi to discuss the law passed by the Verkhovna Rada banning the UOC.
