The Galician Parliament, the Xunta, the Archbishopric and the Council of Santiago met this Wednesday to lay the foundations for the creation of the Foundation of the Pantheon of Illustrious Galicians, They hope that it will be officially created “as soon as possible” and that its financing will be borne 50% by the Galician Chamber.

The start of the board of directors has “total unanimity” of the parties, according to what declared the mayor of the Galician capital, Goretti Sanmartín, and responds to the intention of “dignifying a symbolic space of Galicia”, in the words of the Minister of Culture, Language and Youth, José López Campos, who valued the “intelligence and capacity” for dialogue of the participating entities. The Archbishop of Santiago, Francisco José Prieto, wanted to create a tool to “take care” of a space that “remembers and makes present a living memory of those who preceded us and who allowed Galicia to become a reality.”

The President of the Parliament, Miguel Ángel Santalices, explained that during the meeting the constitution of the foundation was studied by notarial registration; which people will be on the board of directors; and foundation funding. Santalices emphasized that, Given that the foundation will be attached to Parliament, this institution will have to be “a little more generous”. Regarding the possible transfers of land, some of which belong to the Church, Sanmartín avoided giving details and explained that it would be work that would be done “in parallel”, reports Ep.
