The PCA takes the first step and transfers to the IU a proposal aimed at consolidating the current left pact in Andalusia

The Andalusian Committee of the Communist Party of Andalusia (PCA) has approved “a road map” that will be transferred to the leadership of Izquierda Unida (IU) Andalusia to “create a collective political project based on democratic participation”, which represents a “left wing alliance” in view of the Andalusian elections scheduled for 2026. The proposal is that it is carried out through Por Andalucía, the coalition with which IU, Podemos and Más País Andalucía, among other formations, participated in the regional elections of June 2022.

Por Andalucía was officially born in April 2022 after months of complex negotiations between different left-wing formations, but the process took so long to refine all aspects that Podemos arrived late and was left out when the Electoral Council of Andalusia refused his inclusion in the party. candidacy. He did not present himself as a brand, but his candidates were included in the list, but a good example of the fact that the pact was not sufficiently forged is that three months after the elections there was a open war between Podemos, IU and Más País for control of the parliamentary group.

Since then, the scenario has changed significantly. Sumar emerged for last year’s general elections, Más País dissolved to join this formation and the relationships between the different groups that make up Por Andalucía began to be established and the penultimate step was the nomination of Alejandra Durán (Podemos) as parliamentary deputy. spokesperson in place of Esperanza Gómez (Más País, who remains a member of the Chamber Council). Durán, moreover, was expelled from the Parliament table at the start of the legislature, in the midst of the Morados’ attempt to take control of Por Andalucía.

In the wake of the Poppy Manifesto

Now, with the waters calmer over time, came the measure taken this Friday by the PCA, which in a press release clarified that, under the assumption that “returning to the origin is not going back” , the decision adopted by the highest governing body of the Communist Party of Andalusia “is inspired by the report that Julio Anguita presented to the Executive Committee of the PCA in September 1984”. Exactly forty years have passed since the document that gave birth to the Poppy Manifesto and the constitution of the Appeal for Andalusia.

The objective of the report approved this Friday by the Andalusian communists, with 94.87% support, “is to rediscover the spirit that led these comrades, in 1984, to reflect on the political moment and to seek an alternative, doing the same today.” After its approval, this proposal “will be transferred to the management of Izquierda Unida Andalucía to continue its debate”. In the text presented by the general secretary of the PCA, Ernesto Alba, it is affirmed that “there is evidence to affirm the need for all of us to engage in the construction of a left alternative in our country.”

Andalusia, underlines the PCA, “is at the top of the poverty ranking, with 30.5% of the population exposed to the risk of poverty, the highest figure in the country”, which this formation attributes to “neoliberal policies of dismantling public services and to a productive model which the PP-A and the PSOE-A have both implemented. To this “we must add the strong generalized reactionary offensive in Europe, in Spain and in Andalusia”. they add from the Communist Party, from where it is considered that “for these reasons, the response to building an alternative must be clear”.

“The vehicle must be for Andalusia”

The intention of the Andalusian communists is “to take a first step towards the construction of a political project which provides answers to the problems of working families, a project which must be broad, plural and constructed collectively and democratically, which does not fall into the same mistakes and is able to mobilize and enthuse people.

For this process, Alba’s report establishes “a method” and affirms that “the vehicle must be Por Andalucía”, because it is “the only space in the country where the majority of left-wing organizations in Andalusia converge”.

The proposed process is divided into several phases, which begin “with the construction of alliances to reach the maximum number of people and organizations, and will continue with a clarification of objectives, timetable and basic principles, always starting from the recognition of the actors and after the dialogue and debate between political organizations, civil society and social movements.

Por Andalucía meeting and possible “open primaries”

This “will lead to the convening of the first Meeting of Por Andalucía and the launch of the political process”, continues the CPA press release, which adds that “from this process it is hoped that the candidacy for the next Andalusian elections will emerge”.

The report approved by the CPA highlights that “candidates have been one of the main problems on previous occasions” and mentions “the possibility of organizing open primaries in the event of a lack of consensus, which would be the main objective “.

According to Ernesto Alba, “the leadership” of the President of the Commission and the Andalusian PP, Juan Manuel Moreno, “is beginning to be dismantled”, and it would not be surprising if it ends, as [Mariano] Rajoy, surrounded by the corruption of his party and leaving the presidency through the back door.” “We must be ready now for any scenario,” declares the leader of the PCA.
