The Pentagon signed a contract with Lockheed Martin for the production of Trident II D5 intercontinental ballistic missiles with new nuclear warheads intended for launch from submarines for $2.1 billion, the department’s press service reported on Monday, September 30.
“Lockheed Martin Space has been awarded an additional contract valued at more than $2.1 billion for the production of Trident II D5 missiles and the support and development of hosted systems. [боеголовки] Warhead 93/Mark7″, – he stated in the Pentagon statement.
The contract establishes that the work must be completed before September 30, 2029.
In addition to the contract for the production of the missiles themselves, the Pentagon entered into an additional contract with Lockheed Martin worth about $1.2 billion to support the integration of the Trident II D2 and the development of a navigation subsystem for the missiles.
