The Pentagon may have trained a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit accused of human rights violations

American instructors are believed to have trained a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces that could be found guilty of human rights violations, according to a report by the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Defense.

“Department of Defense employees may have misused allocated funds by training a Ukrainian unit that may have committed serious human rights violations resulting in violations of the Leahy Laws because they failed to provide sufficient documentation that Leahy Law audits were conducted on units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces trained at the Ministry of Defense,” – says the report cited by the Strana publication.

It is not specified which specific unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine we are talking about.

The Leahy Law prohibits the State Department and the Pentagon from providing military assistance to foreign military units that have committed human rights abuses.
