The PNV managed to get Congress to approve a legal change aimed at accelerating evictions, despite the government voting against it.

The PNV succeeded in having the Plenary of Congress approve on Thursday a legal modification of the Criminal Procedure Law (LECrim) which will make it possible to accelerate evictions in the event of occupation for burglary, a modification which was carried out with the support of the PP, ERC and Bildu and despite voting against parties that are part of the coalition government.

This is an amendment introduced in the bill on the efficiency of the public service of justice, approved in the plenary session of Congress with the support of the government and its allies against the vote against the PP and Vox.

Concretely, the amendment of the PNV involves modifying article 795.1 of the LECrim so that the offenses of usurpation of residence (article 245 of the Penal Code) and intrusion (article 202 of the Penal Code) are treated according to the abbreviated procedure legal proceedings. , so-called speedy trials, which will speed up their resolution and the expulsions that could be ordered.

Support from Esquerra, Bildu and Junts

The PNV proposal was rejected both in the presentation and in the Justice Commission, but this Thursday it was approved in the plenary session of the Congress thanks to the support of the PP, Junts, ERC, Bildu, UPN and CC, overcoming the opposition of the the PSOE, Sumar, Podemos and the BNG, while Vox abstained, according to the voting list collected by Europa Press.

Thus, the modification has already been introduced in the Law on the Efficiency of Justice which has been sent to the Senate, where the PP has an absolute majority, so it should no longer be revoked.

As the PNV recalls, the nationalist formation has already introduced another amendment in the committee phase so that Basque is established as a required condition in a quota of vacant positions in the Administration of Justice in the Autonomous Community of Euskadi. This pact will serve to “serve Basque citizens more adequately and provide a better public service to those who wish to exercise their right to express themselves in Basque,” they emphasize.

By mistake

Bildu apologized for having voted “by mistake” for the PNV amendment. In a statement, the party accepted the error, insisting on its rejection of the measure proposed by the PNV and committed to trying to overturn and modify it “as soon as possible, consistent with the contrary position” that the political party supported. as long as this measure was proposed by different congressional groups.

“With this message, we do not intend to justify or excuse our mistake, but rather to reaffirm our commitment to what we have stood for in housing all these years. We will continue to work on this path,” they said from Bildu.
