The Turkish authorities’ promises about cheap gas after the start of the development of the large black sea field does not develop. Deeply expensive production grows slowly, while imports are still high, and inflation in Türkiye forced authorities to review the customs tariff regularly. In July, population prices rose by about a quarter.

In the Turkish state -owned company, Potas has announced a new gas tariff since July 2. Prices increased by 24.6 %, for industry – by 7.86 %. This is the second increase since the beginning of the year.

According to Potas, the cost of thousands of cubic meters for families is 7.7 thousand liters ($ 190), and for the industry – 15 thousand ($ 380). This is a little less than European quotes, which reaches more than $ 420.

Despite the development of large deposits in the Black Sea, import is still the main source of gas for Turkey. In April, under EPDK data, its share reached more than 93 % (4 billion cubic meters). Private production is expected to grow to 18 billion cubic meters per year, but so far it continues at the level of 3.5 billion cubic meters.

Turkish Potas carries out most of the imports according to long -term contracts. Gazprom’s share in April reached 43 %.

Potas explained that the increase in prices is related to the need to comply with the state budget requirements.

The economist and former economists of the Central Bank of Turkey Hakan Kara He stated that since March 2024, when the interest rate raised to 50 %, gas prices have increased by approximately 150 %. He said that such an increase contradicts the policy of inflation.

“Increased prices causes anxiety against the background of the high high energy costs, which are stressing both businesses and consumers. – The GMK Center is written. She pointed out that the increase in prices increased the costs of intensive energy industries, especially minerals, which depend largely on electricity due to the dominance of electrical capabilities.
