The population of the Russian Caspian region is rapidly declining

The population of the Astrakhan region (Russia) decreased by 2,208 people in the first half of 2024.

Oku.Az This was reported on the state portal Astrakhanstat on September 15.

The natural decline of the population continues in the region. Between January and June, 4,528 children were born, which is 102 more than in the same period last year. However, the mortality rate exceeded the birth rate. In Astrakhan, 5,773 inhabitants died, which is 118 more than a year ago. Thus, as a result of natural decline, the population decreased by 1,245 people.

The migration situation was also unfavourable. In the six months of 2024, 963 more people left the region than arrived. Most of the migration is related to the migration of the population to other regions of Russia. At the same time, the number of migrants from the CIS countries, mainly labour migrants and students, increased: 510 people left and 838 people arrived.

It should be noted that Astrakhan Oblast is located on the northern coast of the Caspian Sea. As of January 1, 2024, 946,429 people lived in Astrakhan Oblast.
