The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) will soon open to traffic November 5 THE new roads located by the sea on the Paseo Marítimo de Palma. This section, which extends from the Paraires Tower to Argentina Avenue, will be made available to citizens, which represents a significant step forward in the renovation work.
With the commissioning of these roads, it starts with the third and final phase of the overhaul work from the Paseo Marítimo de Palma.
The work will focus on construction of the sidewalk, cycle path and flower beds on the sea sideas well as in the construction of Santo Domingo Square and the expansion of the roofs of the Sant Magí and Sa Riera torrents, reports the APB in a press release.
In this sense, pedestrian traffic on the sea side will be restricted from Argentina Avenue to Club de Mar, remaining operational only pedestrian crossings which give access to marinas. Likewise, the cycle path will be deactivated between Argentina Avenue and the Paraires Tower.
The redevelopment work on the Paseo Marítimo de Palma, a flagship project of the previous socialist government Francine Armengol and the former socialist mayor Jose Hila, They started in January 2023 and will not end until April or May next year, if the latest PDB forecasts are met.
The estimated contract budget is 43,167,607 euros excluding tax and was to have an initial duration of 20 months which will ultimately be at least 30. Some jobs that have been upside down this front-line space, causing notable economic losses to traders and restaurateurs, and leading to the ruin of hundreds of businessmen who, to this day, They received no help from the Administration.
Precisely during the plenary session that the Palma City Council will hold on the 11th, a motion presented by Vox will be debated urging the municipal government of the PP to take a series of measures demanded by the inhabitants of an area transformed into one of the epicenters of nightlife in the Balearic capital, despite this work. The damage caused by nighttime incivility has been and is serious, both from the point of view of commerce and the inconvenience for neighbors and road traffic.
There have been numerous meetings of the Paseo Marítimo neighborhood association with the different areas of the City Hall, as well as complete proposals and interventions in these, in which residents have registered their requests, with the aim of trying to reverse the problem of insecurity. , non-compliance with regulations, incivility, lack of parking, among others.
In this proposal, among other demands, it is proposed, in accordance with the neighborhood’s requests, that the town planning department carry out studies and audits of all licenses granted to bars, companies and activities aimed at detecting illegalities, fraud or exclusionary activities such as concert cafés that affect the civic coexistence of the city, as well as managing the control of terrace licenses.
That same week, neighbors reported that barely two months had passed since the APB installed the new terrace screens bars and several already seem destroyed.
Incivility is already having its effect in a neighborhood where beautification and rehabilitation work is still underway, which is why Vox considers that “there is no point in investing millions of euros if the people who people passing through do not respect public space. , it is therefore necessary to take drastic measures.
It is for this reason that cleaning in the morning and police surveillance at night are requested, after the fed up with the nightly chaos of every weekend and public holidays.
The motion recalls that once the work is completed, nearly 1,000 parking spaces will have been lost, which will have serious consequences for local residents and restaurateurs. It is for this reason that Vox proposes that, until the construction of the parking lots is completed, free parking is provided with greater security permitted by the Municipal Infrastructure zone on the CLH site, more than a kilometer from the Paraires Tower on a plot of 30,000 meters for 800 vehicles.
