Last July, the French far right won an unequivocal victory in the European Parliament elections. With 31.37% of the valid votes cast and 30 additional seats, which doubled the votes and seats of President Macron’s party and the Socialist Party. Commentaries on the evening of the elections interpreted this result as a kind of preview of Marine Le Pen’s victory in the next presidential elections.
This seems to have been the presidential interpretation as well, because otherwise the reaction to immediately dissolve the National Assembly and call elections would not have been understood.
