The Popular Party of Cuenca asked the Community Council of Castile-La Mancha, more specifically the Ministry of Education, for an “immediate” solution to the problem of lack of janitors at IES Fernando de los Ríos, in the town of Quintanar del Rey. Of the three professionals who carried out this work, there is currently only one left, “who is not even replaced when he has to use the days of leave to which he is entitled”, say the popular.
This “inexplicable” reduction in staff was obtained due to several circumstances, which only demonstrate the “negligence” of regional education officials in the face of a problem that has worsened over time, underlines the PP. One of the three janitors available to the institute was transferred to another center, his position was put out to competition and was not filled, according to ‘Popular’ in a press release.
Another professional, on leave, was replaced by a colleague, but when he retired, the person who replaced him was fired.. “They only have one janitor left who they are not even replacing,” reiterates the PP. Coverage of the retiree’s situation was requested three times, and the center received an unfavorable report in this regard with arguments such as that the institute does not give classes in the afternoon, “an issue that does not is not true since it “It develops the preparation of the B1 and the professional certificate”, say the popular people of Cuenca.
The PP of Cuenca wanted to highlight “the important work carried out by all the professionals of the educational community, which includes, of course and as one could not least, the janitors” and stressed that “they are fundamental for the proper functioning of the centers, starting with the fact that they are responsible for opening their doors.
The IES Fernando de los Ríos in Quintanar del Rey currently has almost 600 students, or 592, and 65 teachers.“figures large enough that the Council would not have given rise to this situation and would have solved the problem of the lack of caretakers a long time ago,” concludes the PP.
