The PP of Ayuso will request the appearance of Begoña Gómez at the first session of the commission of inquiry at the Madrid Assembly

The commission of inquiry into the alleged favors of the Complutense University towards the wife of the president of the government, Begoña Gómez, will start in force. The commission will be formed tomorrow and the PP of Ayuso announced that it would request the appearance of Begoña Gómez during the first session, as “co-director of the chair and masters in doubt”. The PP hopes that the rector of the Complutense University, Joaquín Goyache, will also be present at this first session.

After the meeting of spokespersons in the Assembly of Madrid, the spokesperson for the Popular Group, Carlos Díaz-Pache, announced that the PP does not exclude proposing the appearance of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in this commission of inquiry.

The spokesperson for the PP in the Assembly of Madrid indicated that the Popular Party is a “serious” formation and that it is coordinated with the national leadership of Genoa and with the people who must be aware, as he has said, of this question.

As Pache recalled, people who are not linked to public administration have the obligation to appear before the commission of inquiry if they are summoned, as will be the case of Begoña Gómez. A different case is when a person linked to the administration is called to appear, such as the President of the Government. In this case, Sánchez can decide not to appear before the commission even if he is summoned.

“Since the publication of the first information on the wife of the President of the Government, we have continued to learn worrying details,” Pache said. “The impact that this news has had in the international press is particularly worrying and all this has caused enormous discredit within the public university of Madrid that we must restore, investigating what really happened and purifying all political responsibilities and establishing recommendations so that this does not happen again.”

The spokesperson explained that with the answers obtained from Begoña Gómez and the rector of Complutense, they would consider summoning Pedro Sánchez and other high government officials, because “it seems that this chair was created in La Moncloa and that the president himself was in meetings with businessmen who, on the one hand, ended up financing this chair and, on the other hand, obtained public contracts.

“I hope that Ms. Gómez will come with the intention of collaborating and clarifying the questions posed to her and clarifying the problems of her professional and decent performance,” emphasized the PP spokesperson.

The Vox parliamentary group also announced that it would request the appearance of Begoña Gómez and would consider doing the same with the President of the Government. However, Vox’s demands can only succeed with the support of the votes of the PP, which is the one which holds the absolute majority.

On behalf of the PSOE, the parliamentary spokesperson, Juan Lobato, indicated that this commission of inquiry makes no sense and believes that it is due exclusively to Ayuso’s “constant obsession” with Pedro Sánchez.
