The mayor, Cristina Ayala, listens to the “cry” of the street and hopes that her partner will not break the coalition
The mayor of Burgos, the popular Cristina Ayala, is backing down and in the city’s draft budget for 2025 the item of aid to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work with immigrants and whose deletion had been imposed by her partner in government, Vox, as a means of approving the accounts. From the first moment, the Popular Party had shown that this would not have been done in its place, but it was a requirement that it complied with as essential to approve these budgets and in favor of “stability”.
However, everything changed this Thursday after the massive call for rejection which brought together thousands of people in front of City Hall on Wednesday evening to protest against the decision. From the morning, the spokesperson, Andrea Ballesteros, assumed that they had heard the “scream” coming from the street. A mobilization in response and rejection of the imposed intention to erase the allocation of 119,000 euros per year to Accem, Atalaya Intercultural and Burgos Acoge, but from which Cáritas was excluded, which had already announced that it would not sign the agreement under these conditions.
A protest to which, in addition to the organizing organizations, many groups of different types joined in a unanimous clamor, from unions to political parties, including businessmen and third sector organizations.
“I believe the government’s agreement cannot be compromised,” the adviser said during an urgent appearance, although she assumed it was up to her to know what each party decides. In fact, the deputy mayor, Fernando Martínez-Acítores (Vox), also called this afternoon.
