President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the first lady Mehriban Aliyeva On September 2, the authorities learned about the work carried out on the fourth tunnel built within the framework of the Toganali-Kalbajar-Istisu Highway project in Kalbajar District and the 15.2-kilometer section of this road.
AZERTAC reports that Saleh Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan State Highway Agency, informed the Head of State and the First Lady about the work carried out.
It was reported that the construction of the Toganali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway is proceeding rapidly within the framework of the project for the reconstruction and restoration of the territories liberated from occupation. The length of the existing highway is 100 kilometers and the length of the new highway is 82 kilometers. Several works on the highway have already been completed.
It was reported that the length of the tunnel at kilometers 34.9-35.4 of the highway is 500 meters and the width of the roadway is 8 meters.
According to the project, 6 junctions with a total length of 2,968 metres have been reconstructed along the road. Construction of 36 connecting roads with a total length of 5,600 metres is also underway.
President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva were also briefed on the work carried out on the completed 15.2-kilometer section of the Toganali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway.
It was reported that the length of the road connecting Goygol and Kalbajar regions is 56 kilometers on the Toganali-Kalbajar section and 26 kilometers on the Kalbajar-Istisu section.
The Murovdag ridge begins at the 13th kilometer of the Toganali-Kalbajar highway, and the height increases from 1,700 meters to 3,260 meters. In this section, the construction of the Murovdag tunnel, which will be one of the longest automobile tunnels in the world, is continuing. The tunnel will have 2 lanes in one direction and will be 10 meters wide. In addition, the construction of 4 tunnels with lengths of 561.2 meters, 626.9 meters, 500 meters and 947.9 meters is underway. Work is continuing on the construction of connecting roads between the right and left parts of the Murovdag tunnel, which will have a length of 23.4 kilometers.
In total, 67.5 percent of the construction of the Toganali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway has been completed.
It should be noted that the Toğanalı-Kalbajar-Istisu road starts from Toğanalı village of Goygol district and passes through the territory of Kalbajar district, which was liberated from occupation. Therefore, this road will provide easy access to the district center and the famous Istisu area, along with many residential areas.
