The US decision is planned to be applied to guide customs duties on Brazilian goods, starting from the first of August next year.

According to CNN of Brazil, the meeting was attended by Vice President Geraldo Alken, Minister of Finance Fernando Huddad and Foreign Minister Mauro Viyira, including Brazilian response options, including the possibility of applying similar measures.

The Brazilian step occurred after President Donald Trump announced last Friday about a package of new customs duties, including several commercial partners, as part of a commercial policy, which he called the “protective”, which indicates that the fees will vary from 10% to 70% and entered into force in early August, in the front of which imports from Brazil.

Trump confirmed that his administration had already begun to send messages to his commercial partners in order to inform them of new decisions, and that he will complete this process until July 9th.

In the tweet posted on the “X” platform, Lula da Silva said that “to any unilateral increase in customs duties will be responsible in accordance with the law of mutual economic measures,“ emphasizing that “Brazil is a sovereign state with independent institutions, and no one will be adopted.”

The President of Brazil previously indicated that his country will legally respond to this step based on the statement approved in April last year and will allow counter -measurements to include the suspension of commercial privileges and investments, as well as imposing restrictions on the intellectual property rights of countries aimed at the Brazil economy.

It should be noted that after his return to the White House, Trump began to carry out a series of strict commercial steps, including entering a fee for imports from Mexico and Canada, as well as tightening customs sanctions against China, in addition to new fees for steel, aluminum and cars to balance the American trade balance.
