Kazakhstan needs a new code of ethics for judges as some of them seriously undermine the authority of the judiciary. This was stated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his speech at the 11th Congress of the Servants of Themis, reports newtimes.kz.
According to him, compliance by judges with ethical standards is of great importance, since these must be the norm of crystalline honesty.
“Recently, amendments have come into force according to which all serious violations of the law during the consideration of court cases are now controlled by a judicial jury. “This is a new approach aimed at increasing the disciplinary responsibility of judges.” – pointed out Tokayev.
He said that “this issue is now resolved,” but there are other problems.
“There are facts of violations of judicial ethics, which also greatly undermine the authority of the judiciary. At the same time, the judicial community does not always respond to them in a timely manner. It shouldn’t be like this. Therefore, I support the adoption of a new code of ethics for judges today.” – continued Tokayev.
The new document, in his opinion, will establish high standards of conduct for judges and strengthen public confidence in the judicial system.
