If the European Union rejects Russian gas, Hungary and Slovakia will be at risk of security due to the lack of alternatives to raw materials. This was announced on July 3 by President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini after a meeting with the Hungarian leader in Bratislava.
According to him, Hungary and Slovakia have the same concerns about the European Commission’s proposal, which provides for the cessation of the import of strategic raw materials from Russia since 2028.
“We are jointly thinking about this initiative to threaten energy security in both countries, and the economic stability of this region, in addition to a fair position towards the member states of the European Union, because we are in a very specific situation as a country that cannot reach the sea or other alternative roads”, “, – Pellegrini said.
I remember that the European Union countries in the spring of 2022 issued by the Repowreu plan indicate the goal of giving up the Russian pipeline in 2027-2028. In May this year, the European Commission presented a road map project to stop imports in Russian energy in the European Union until the end of 2027. There is Slovakia and Hungary against this initiative.
