One of the methods of artificially increasing the price of cars in Azerbaijan is by altering their mileage.
Cases of illegal influence on the mechanism of information on the distance travelled by the car have increased so much that most buyers of old cars suffer the consequences.
The mechanic said that this process is electronic in new generation cars, they remove the device and interfere with the “mileage” and go back:
“But since older cars have a cable system, it can be removed using any device.” But what punishment awaits those who use this method?
Lawyer Hikmet Aliyev said that if the consumer was misled about the car’s consumption characteristics in a small amount, i.e. in an amount not exceeding 300 manats, then in such a case, according to article 447 of the Code of Administrative Offences, he can be brought to administrative responsibility and fined:
“If the consumer is defrauded of more than 300 manats, this case gives rise to criminal liability. Thus, according to Article 200 of the Criminal Code, a fine of 3,000 to 5,000 manats or 360 hours of imprisonment is imposed on persons who deceive consumers and sell substandard products, depending on whether they are individual entrepreneurs. A penalty of up to 480 hours of public works is provided for.
