Following the partial recovery of VAT on basic food products since October, the prices of the products concerned have increased. However, not all of them became more expensive in the same proportion, and many of them would have done much more than what was stipulated.

This is what the organization ensures Facua-Consumers in actionwhich estimates that certain foods have suffered a price increase of up to almost 40%, far from the 2 or 7.5% expected.

For the organization, the most striking case was detected in the seedless white grape: while the average increase last month was 26%, at Aldi it went from 1.29 euros in September to 1.79 euros in October (38.7% more).

It should be remembered that since October 1, basic foods (olive oil, milk, bread, eggs, cheese, fruits, vegetables, legumes, tubers, cereals and flour) for which VAT was reduced to 0% are increased to 2%; and similarly, VAT on pasta and seed oils increased from 5% to 7.5%.

Other notable examples are that of potato and that of lentilswhich experienced increases of 13.3 and 7.1% respectively. In the case of vegetables, the highest increase took place at Hipercor, with an increase of 30.2% (from 5.99 to 7.80 euros). In the case of legumes, the largest increase took place in Eroski, where the increase in the price of the Luengo brand package was 28.5% (from 2.95 to 3.79 euros).

To a lesser extent, they also significantly increased the price of iceberg lettuce (4.3%), the garlic (2.9%) or sliced ​​mushrooms (2.7%).

On the contrary, some foods have an even lower price in October than in September. This happens with the kilo of carrots (-0.5%), the golden apples (-0.8%), the lemons (-2.7%) and pear conference (-3.6%).
