On Monday, this was the second huge attempt to break the largest Turkish opposition party. Firstly, the mayor of Istanbul and presidential candidate of the CHPC, the Imamoglu, were arrested in March. Now the party should be paralyzed: the procedure began before the trial in Ankara, which could lead to the deposition of the leader of the Ozhel party.
Prosecutors in Ankara claim that at the conference of the CHP party in November 2023, at which the unsuccessful chairman Kemal Kylichdaroglu was elected, and Ezel was elected the new leader of the party, as they say, fraud was voiced. Therefore, the entire party congress is invalid. Kilichdaroglu, a man who can never win against Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had to become the party leader again.
If the state prosecutor wins the process, this must paralyze the party for a long time and, in the worst case, lead to a split. At least, as a competition for Erdogan, a thermal power plant, which is currently undergoing examinations for ten percentage points ahead of Erdogan’s automatic transmission, will be made.
The whole process, which should be declared illegally, is based on similar accusations built, as previously against the Imamoglu Ekrem and several other members of the thermal power station, which were arrested at the same time. Covered witnesses and some disappointed loser of elections are used to discredit the party congress at that time.
The selection of an oxide ozel was a very rare, democratic brilliant performance. Usually, party leaders in Turkey remain at the head of their party until they died or are canceled. Therefore, democratic changes in the TPP indicated a real update within the framework of the Republican People’s Party.
