The substitute professor of law dismissed by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) for disseminating sexist, racist and xenophobic messages on social networks proposed to the rector Eva Ferreira to replace the vice-rector of the UPV/EHU who was dismissed from office for “insulting” the alternative candidate to Ferreira, Joxerra Bengoetxea, with anonymous accounts on social networks. “You can count on me to replace him. I am the spearhead against the greatest possible immorality: abortion,” wrote the former professor of the Basque Public University in a message from X addressed to the rector.

The University of the Basque Country reported the opening of a procedure provided for in the Protocol against gender violence, as well as the precautionary measure adopted aimed at removing the professor from the Faculty of Law from teaching until the procedure is completed. After a legal analysis, and after the adoption of the precautionary measure already described, the University decided to initiate the procedure aimed at removing this person from the position of substitute professor that she occupied, a procedure provided for in the internal regulations. After the procedure he was expelled from the institution and since then he continues to use his social networks to spread sexist and racist messages against the University of the Basque Country such as: “Thank you very much UPV for your 11-page resolution , but I don’t need it. I already have toilet paper at home to wipe my ass after I shit thinking about you. However, there is no worse waste than having ‘teachers’ who support abortion or who are lukewarm towards it… It’s me who’s leaving, children,” he said. wrote on October 31 on his Instagram account.

The rector of the UPV/EHU and candidate for re-election, Eva Ferreira, forced this Monday, in the middle of the electoral campaign, the resignation of one of her closest collaborators, the prestigious professor Guillermo Quindós. According to a computer report from the alternative candidacy, Quindós would have actively participated in a campaign on X to launch defamatory messages against him and Ferreira gave full credibility to these considerations.

Quindós, current vice-rector for scientific and social development and transfer of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), presented his resignation after learning publicly that, through an anonymous story, he had insulted and defamed the members of the other candidate for the rectorate elections, led by Joxerra Bengoetxea. The rector herself, Ferreira, published a message on X in which she indicates that she accepts the irrevocable resignation presented by the vice-rector.

“This resignation is motivated by the publication on social networks of messages which in no way reflect the spirit and values of this rector’s team nor of the university itself. I also want to say that, on a personal note, I feel deeply disappointed. I was unaware of these actions which were carried out in a strictly private manner. Not only the content of these messages, but also this way of proceeding, seem totally unacceptable to me,” Ferreira wrote on his social networks.

Quindós himself wanted to apologize on his X account, but tried to apologize by saying that “these were comments that he shared with a limited number of followers”. “The messages, sent in a personal context, without using my name or my position, and of a very limited scope, did not in any way aspire to have a public impact, beyond the context in which they had been written. These were comments that he shared with a limited number of followers, and without any intention of influencing the electoral campaign or the image of the other candidate. From here, I want to offer my most sincere apologies to both candidates and, in particular, to Joxerramon Bengoetxea, for the damage that these messages may have caused and which, in the context of an electoral campaign, are particularly unacceptable”, writes the former one of the vice-rectors of the UPV/EHU.

Bengoetxea’s candidacy warned that the campaign in which the two will compete until November 26, when the rectorate elections will take place, “is defamatory” with “trolls who are dedicated to insulting and defamation”. It is for this reason that on Monday they presented a computer report containing the evidence that led to the departure of Quindós, a professor with a very long career in the field of microbiology and health and who became an important broadcaster during the COVID-19 pandemic. . The expert report, to which this newspaper had access, proves that an anonymous account of

Through the story of ) and fascist attack dogs (read UIB) who surreptitiously do their dirty work. Joxerra, good tactic, but remember Adolfo, Benito and Patxi the frog! or “And this is the law professor?” This reminds me of that Soviet joke about the vase and the political commissariat. Which does not appear here.

“These events are part of a very worrying dynamic. First of all, we want to express our solidarity with all the people who may have been affected by these hoaxes, part of our candidacy was, but there are more people affected. Secondly, it is true that we also want to show our closeness with the other candidacy because it was surely a shock for her to learn this news, but we must also say that it is part of a dynamic that this candidacy has followed trying to discredit our candidacy with different statements, declarations and hoaxes about us,” detailed Bengoetxea.

The report was prepared “by an independent group of individuals who seek to promote fair and transparent elections at the university.” “Without being professionals, we conducted this investigation in order to demand accountability for the offensive messages posted on this account and to foster an environment of respect in the electoral process,” the document reads.
