The prosecution decided to backtrack and announced this Monday that he would not appeal – as he had initially assured – to the Supreme Court of the judgment of the National Court which acquitted the former president of the Valencian Generalitat Francisco Camps of the crime of trafficking in influence in ideal competition with that of prevarication of the fact that he was accused in the trial of the “Gürtel affair” linked to the contracts awarded to the company Orange Market, belonging to the land.

Judicial sources explained to Europa Press that it was the Supreme Court prosecutor’s office which decided not to file the appeal prepared by its anti-corruption colleagues. The aforementioned sources indicate that the power to bring this appeal ultimately rests with the prosecution of the High Court, which cited technical reasons for deciding not to move forward.

In a ruling, to which Europa Press had access, the High Court considers “withdrawn” the cassation appeal announced by Anti-Corruption at the beginning of last October. This prosecution notably declared that it did not agree, among other points, with the acquittal of Camps.

In the aforementioned judgment, the National Court condemned the members of “Gürtel”, including its leader, Francisco Correa, its “number two”, Pablo Crespo, and the head of the Orange Market, Álvaro Pérez “El Bigotes”. two years and three months in prison for complying with the Prosecutor’s indictment.

The magistrates also sentenced eight other defendants to sentences ranging from ten months in prison, such as that imposed on the head of the technical office of the Valencian Company of Security and Industrial Promotion (SEPIVA) Enrique Bort, up to eight years in prison, as the one imposed returned to that of the Orange market director, Cándido Herrero.

On the other hand, the court acquitted several councilors and officials of the Valencian Generalitat for public contracts extended between 2004 and 2009, among which the contracts for the Tennis Open and the contracts for major events of the Generalitat Valencia stand out. . for his exhibition at Fitur.

Regarding the accusation against Camps for his participation in the recruitment of Fitur, the judgment specifies that it has not been “proven by any valid evidence” that the former president “exercised pressure, suggestions, recommendations or insinuations in the conduct” of the former president. general director of Institutional Promotion Dora Ibars or in the management bodies of companies exhibiting at the Major Events stand at the Fitur 2009 Fair.
