Those who killed Samuel Luiz were a “human pack” who considered the young nurse “their prey”. His alleged killers “just wanted to see his blood and enjoy his humiliation.” This is how prosecutor Olga Serrano roughly described it in her final report of the trial for the crime committed in a refreshment bar in La Coruña in the early morning of July 3, 2021. In an energetic presentation, the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office made appeal to the nine members of the jury so that when they put together “all the pieces of the puzzle” to render their verdict, they always keep the victim in mind: “Samuel only has you, the prosecutor, in the 18th century”. session of the trial, which hosts the Provincial Court of La Coruña insisted on putting the five accused in the same bag, because it maintains that they all participated in one way or another: “All the accused were fully aware that with their actions and beatings, there was a high probability that they would die in “an attack that lasted three minutes over 150 meters” on the seafront of the city of Hercules. The prosecutor insisted on the duration of the attack, more than three minutes. And he invited the nine jury members to think about their favorite song: “Imagine being hit, mostly in the head, for the duration of the song you’re thinking of.” And this gave importance to the conclusions of forensic experts, who ruled out that there was a fatal blow during the lynching, but were clear that his death was the result of “a sum” of punches and of foot. Thus, “we are faced with an attack from a single group”, concluded the prosecutor in plenary session.
