The Provincial Deputation of Alicante manages the transfer of works from the exhibition ‘A Miguel Hernández 50×50’ to Orihuela

THE Deputation of Alicante has been working for a month with the Town Hall of Orihuela promote the transfer of paintings from the exhibition “A Miguel Hernández 50×50” so that they return to the poet’s hometown.

This is what the president of the provincial institution declared this morning, Toni Pérezwho assured that “the legal services of the Provincial Deputation, the Cultural Institute of Alicante Juan Gil-Albert and the Museum of Fine Arts of Alicante manage the most appropriate legal formula”.

Pérez emphasized that “today the political will of the Provincial Council coincides with what was transferred at the beginning of October by the Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Végaraand is in line with the love and care with which the provincial institution and its organizations have always treated the works that make up this exhibition.

The exhibition brings together fifty pieces many other artists who have united their art with the memory of the poet and present an essential set of works of painting, sculpture and ceramics in different techniques and media, all in the same format of 50×50 centimeters. More than two decades later, in 2014, the Juan Gil-Albert Cultural Institute of Alicante brought him back into the spotlight for his roaming throughout the province.

“Due to certain circumstances, the Miguel Hernández Cultural Foundation was not able to take care of these works in the conditions appropriate to the time, which led to their deposit with the funds of the Foral Deputation”, added the president provincial.

The time that has passed since then, almost a decade, has been a “time of love, care, maintenance and protection of this work, and the political will of the current provincial government and the Municipal Council is that, when circumstances permit and always that all these technical, processing and maintenance aspects are guaranteed, it is the Foundation itself which, if it wishes, keeps them at its entire disposal. This is why it must be done from maximum rigorfollowing the corresponding legal formula, since it is a artistic heritage from the whole province tutored until today carefully by the Provincial Council”, underlined Toni Pérez.

Finally, the president wanted to recall that in addition to disseminating the ethical and human values reflected in the poems of Miguel Hernández, it is also appropriate to cultivate and observe them in daily life and particularly in political action: do well things and plead for understanding and harmony in a sincere way.

In this sense, the president showed his surprise at the motivation of the motion presented by PSOE, C And Let’s change “demanding” the restitution of the works, because “the provincial institution limited itself to keeping and protecting this important artistic heritage whose promoter was precisely the Institute of Culture of Alicante Juan Gil-Albert in 1992 to pay homage to the distinguished poet on the 50th anniversary of his death.

“It is therefore not a question of sterile debates nor of the much used “and you more”, but of concretizing and proving through actions a will in which now, both the Provincial Delegation of Alicante and the local government of Orihuela , in “Your mayor’s person and I have been working for a month.”
