The case of Sumar’s former spokesperson in Congress, Íñigo Errejón, and his resignation due to the accusations against him landed this Tuesday in the plenary session of Madrid City Hall with great virulence. Both the spokesperson for the PSOE, Reyes Maroto, and that of Más Madrid, Rita Maestre, to which Errejón belongs, filed a complaint against the mayor, accusing him of being “sexist” and of using this affair only to attack feminism and as “a political hunt.” In a tense climate, the two spokespersons for the municipal opposition groups asked the Madrid councilor to withdraw his comments or to “resign”.

Almeida was ironic last Saturday in his X account about the response that the left gave to this affair. “In case you have lost count, here we leave you the list of demonstrations called by feminist movements after the Errejón scandal and how Más Madrid and Sumar hid it”, leaving empty spaces after the sentence. This Tuesday, Rita Maestre disgraced the PP bench for continuing to laugh. “Their laughter and their smiles are repulsive and disgusting when they talk about sexual assault, when they talk about victims, when they talk about such important topics. “Your laughter is shameful,” he said. “You have come to attack me and feminism,” he added.

Maestre recalled that “patriarchal attitudes are transversal” and that “aggressors and sexists are everywhere”, evoking the Nevenka case or the declarations made by the leaders of the PP when the sexual assaults of the tenor Plácido became known, that they minimized. that they could not “invalidate his entire career”. “The difference between a left-wing party and a right-wing party is not the number of sexists it contains, but the number of feminists who fight to expel the sexists as soon as they learn of the first attack, of the first attitude. This is exactly the difference between us and you,” says Maestre.

Maroto, in turn, asked Almeida to “resign.” “Stop embarrassing us because your hypocrisy has no limits,” he said, while calling his use of the Errejón case “political hunting.” “Fortunately, society has changed even if we remain stuck in the past,” he told the mayor. “From the PSOE, we are not going to participate in this political hunt and we will continue to approve laws that protect women from sexist abuse,” added the socialist.

The artillery of “corruption”

The mayor, far from retracting, reiterated his attacks and confronted the two spokespersons for the left. “Madame Maestre, what is truly disgusting is your silence about Íñigo Errejón for all these years. It’s disgusting because they knew it and covered it up. They did not do this to protect the victims, but to protect you, Yolanda Díaz and Mónica García. They only condemned Errejón when he knew he was ahead of them, that’s what is disgusting. If this had affected a PP deputy, the feminist movement would have invaded the streets four days ago,” he insisted.

He told Maroto that “he never tires of making a fool of himself” and argued that the PSOE “also covered up for him and excused his actions.” “There is a predator, as Más Madrid and his brand said, who has been hiding for a year, and in order not to break a coalition government, you remain silent.” Almeida deployed the artillery of “corruption” that “invades the Sánchez government,” saying that, according to him, the one who must resign is “the one who allowed Koldo, Aldama and a businessman to meet in his meeting room of the Ministry of Industry”. », which she directed before arriving at Madrid City Hall.
