The vice-spokeswoman of the Municipal Socialist Group, Ana Abellán, appeared this Friday to ask the PP government and Vox to clarify the situation in which the tuk-tuks that circulate in the historic center of Toledo find themselves: “We want to know who gave this authorization, why it is authorized and based on what is regulated.
Ana Abellán clarified that the informative document brought to light by the government spokesperson PP and Vox “in no case allows authorization or license from the City Hall for said tuk-tuk to travel through Toledo, it is simply acts as an information document that is transferred to the businessman who requests this information.
This is why, he explained, “Juanjo Alcalde lied to citizens by saying that with this writing the former mobility advisor had given authorization to these vehicles to circulate freely” with the aim of “ manipulate reality and place the blame, as usual, on others.
The Municipal Socialist Group, whose position is “absolutely” opposed to the tuk-tuk in Toledo, believes that “a debate must be opened given the doubts that this issue raises among citizens and in the majority group of the Municipal Council”, as reported in a press release. Especially, “when the neighbors, during the last Casco Participation Council, presented a proposal to prohibit the circulation of these vehicles,” declared the socialist.
The initiative was rejected by PP and Vox, who assured that these vehicles “did not present a problem for the historic center of Toledo”. The PSOE therefore understands that if “the government openly recognizes that there are tuk-tuks circulate in the city and they pose no problem, then they need to be regulated in some way.”
“The government spokesperson did not reveal whether it would authorize other hotels, restaurants or businesses in the city that request it, to start this activity. If a hotel wishes to offer this service to its customers to circulate in the historic center, the paradox may arise that, for them, we find not five or ten, but more than a hundred, to put a number. Or will other hotels not be allowed to have this type of vehicle, only this specific hotel which already uses five tuk-tuks to get around Casco?
For all these reasons, the PSOE considers that this activity should be regulated and that it should be discussed “whether we want it or not”. From there, it would have to be submitted to a public call for tenders, as other similar activities have been proposed, such as the tourist bus or train.
“Activities, by the way, which are awarded by public tender and which pay a fixed fee to the town hall. How much do these tuk-tuks pay?
Faced with this, the socialist vice-spokesperson wonders “if unfair competition is not being created with tourist buses and trains, as well as with the city’s taxis, which also pay for their license, with these tuk-tuks who circulate freely and who can move around the city and around the Valley, among other things.
For all this, the PSOE considers that it is necessary to open a debate, because even before participation it sees “that it is necessary that there be a report on the necessity of the activity”. Ana Abellán explained that during the previous legislature, the socialist government did not authorize the tuk-tuk because it understood that “it was not a necessity in the city and that it was one more obstacle to coexistence between the tourist and the resident of the historic district”. Center.”
“Is it quality tourism that the mayor wants? Include this type of vehicle in a historic center declared a world heritage site? Ultimately, it seems that the model city that Carlos Velázquez has in mind, seeing the buses and now these tuk-tuks, is Thailand,” he criticized.
For all this, according to the socialist vice-spokesperson, “the only one who must apologize for lying, once again to the citizens of Toledo, is the spokesperson for the PP and VOX, Juanjo Alcalde. But what can you ask of an advisor who knowingly lied to the courts and the Court itself reprimanded him for it?
Thus, he asked him to concentrate on the government, “he is no longer spokesperson for the opposition, and to devote himself to mediation between the existing differences of the groups for which he is spokesperson, the advisors of the PP and Vox advisors. “.
He also asked him to stop being “a toxic spokesperson” and become a spokesperson who talks to citizens about the things that really interest them, such as increasing taxes, the infrastructure they are going to create for improve the lives of citizens, but the real ones, not the advertisements, and how much money citizens spent in a year and for what.
During this press conference, the vice-spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group also made a point of clarifying why the Municipal Socialist Group deleted the tweet referring to the tuk-tuk and which literally said: “The tuk-tuk, owned by a friend of the mayor, will continue to circulate in Toledo without regulation. If another hotel, restaurant or other business wants to start this business, will you allow it? Is this your mobility plan?
“The post was deleted at the request of the businessman who asked us to delete it and not use his friendship from many years ago with the mayor of the city. And that is what we did, but the fact that we deleted it does not mean that we do not agree with what was said there, and that it is nothing other than the mayor of this city uses his position to favor his friends, and therefore “We have reported it several times and we are sure that it will not be the last”, he explained.
