The PSOE boasts that Pedro Sanchez He obtained more than 6% of the votes to be the only candidate for re-election as head of the party. This was assured by socialists through social networks regarding the 41st Federal Congress which the socialists will celebrate in Seville on November 29 and 30 and December 1. The President of the Government will be re-elected secretary general of the PSOE because he has no rival to challenge his leadership within the party. “This fact underlines the broad support that Sánchez maintains among the socialist activist base and reflects the continuity in the leadership of the party, lay the foundations for a socialist strategy facing the challenges to come”, defend the socialists.
The primary process within the PSOE ends, since there are no more candidates apart from Sánchez, but the Congress calendar continues with the designation of territorial delegations and the debates on amendments to the framework presentation for the 41st Congress. The next key dates, as explained by the training, will be October 13, the deadline for presenting applications from Delegations, the vote for which will take place on the 20th of the same month. The framework presentation and management report will be distributed on October 25, allowing local groups to propose amendments until November 4, which will be compiled into a final document on November 19.
After the Federal Congress which will take place in Seville, a period will open for the holding of congresses in the different federations, which will extend until February 23, 2025with the possibility of extending this date due to Christmas festivities. The provincial, island, regional and local congresses will have until June 30, 2025 to be held, thus completing the cycle of internal renewal of the party.
Pedro Sánchez obtained more than 6% of approvals after several leaders of the PSOE and ministers of his government registered on social networks supporting the unique candidacy of the President of the Government to revalidate his mandate at the head of the party. In this way, no rival will contest the re-election of Pedro Sánchez as head of the PSOE. The president of the government will extend his mandate at the head of the socialists for four years. He won the 2014 primaries and won again in 2017, after his party colleagues defended him. He has already been elected secretary general of the PSOE in 2021. The socialist primary process thus ends, but the Congress calendar continues with the designation of delegations in each of the socialist federations and the debates on the amendments to the framework presentation which will be transferred to the federations on October 25.
The congress was brought forward by surprise
Pedro Sánchez announced at the end of last August that advanced by surprise the Federal Congress of the PSOE, because the socialists were planning to celebrate it next year. In addition to the legal proceedings against his wife, several federations have questioned some of his latest measures, such as the agreement with the ERC, which grants fiscal independence of Cataloniain exchange for the investiture of Salvador Illa. A pact which caused an internal revolution in the socialist ranks.
The PSOE held its last federal congress in October 2021. In other words, its celebration should take place in 2025, four years later. Despite this, Sánchez decided to bring forward the conclave to protect himself and minimize internal criticism.
The party is going through a complicated situation at the territorial level after losing power in several autonomous communities and key municipalities during the May 2023 elections, thus chaining together several electoral failures. Sánchez’s objective is therefore to grease his federations and try to activate leadership.
