The Minister of Science and leader of the PSOE in the Valencian Community, Diane Morantdemanded this Friday that the PP “eliminate” the Valencian president, Carlos Mazon. He also called for a new technical president to be appointed and for early regional elections to be called in 2025.
The leader of the Valencian socialists thus broke the veiled truce he had maintained until now, without directly demanding Mazón’s resignation. What is striking in his intervention is that the PP does not have the capacity to dismiss Mazón, elected by the Valencian Cortes.
“We cannot continue to be governed by a negligent and incompetent government. I no longer address Mr. Mazón, we address the PP with a demand and a proposal: we demand that the PP immediately dismiss Mr. Mazón and elect a president with technical ability who is not sectarian,” Morant said.
The minister also requested that an alternative “transitional” government be put in place to resolve the current emergency and that “once the situation allows, in 2025”, regional elections be called.
The PSOE offered his votes to form this new government“so that he can do so without submitting to Vox’s conditions.” “We offer you all the votes of the PSOE without compensation, we will not be part of this Consell,” he said.
With his words, Morant demanded for the first time since the DANA of October 29 that Mazón cease to be president of the Valencian Generalitat. Until now, A truce was maintained between the PSOE and the central governmentensuring that the most important thing was the solution to the emergency and that there would be time to clarify responsibilities.
“It’s a popular cry: He needs to go,” Morant said. “We do not deserve this helplessness,” he added. The PSOE’s response comes after Mazón’s appearance before the Valencian Parliament.
“We thought he had come to submit his resignation, to assume his responsibilities. We found an appearance which is nothing other than an evasion. It is an act of political cowardice, a lack of respect towards citizens,” he said.
Morant borrowed the famous phrase from Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba and declared that “the people need a president who does not lie to them.” “It is an exceptional moment that requires exceptional solutions. The Valencian Community is facing an unprecedented institutional crisis, because the one who should have been the most responsible was the most irresponsible,” he added.
The minister accused Mazón of not heeding the alerts, of not prioritizing security, of not warning of danger and that “when it was too late, he hid behind lies.” “He was never where he should be. He was not up to the task, as were thousands of neighbors, of all political persuasions,” he concluded.
