The PSOE demanded this Thursday the “immediate” resignation of the PP mayor of Alba de Tormes (Salamanca)Concepción Miguélez, after learning that the trial will take place on December 18 where she will have to answer in a procedure in which she is attributed with the commission of an alleged crime of prevarication.
“Neither Alba nor the people of Alba deserve to be represented by this mayor whose municipal council has been sullied and called into question by this fact,” the socialists said in a statement sent to Ical.
In this process, the Prosecutor’s Office requests that Concepción Miguélez be sentenced to 12 years of disqualification from holding employment or public office after being accused of having “broken the law” by calling and assign a public employment position linked to the Town Hall that he presides, “ignoring all the legal procedures that regulate the offer of public employment and this type of calls”, a fact which has been described as “very serious, unbearable and which has a very difficult or non-existent justification “.
The PP mayor allegedly violated the principles of merit, capacity and equal opportunities that must govern all public contracts when, allegedly, she decided, through a resolution from the mayor, “favor a specific person” and hire them to take care of students in the dining room of the municipality’s professional center during the 2019-2020 academic year, without the obligatory public call for tenders as provided for by law.
The objective, according to the PSOE, was to award this position to a woman who was part of the PP list led by Concepción Miguélez herself in the municipal elections. “All this, ignoring and without heeding the warnings of the municipal IT secretary himself who warned him of the irregularity,” added socialist sources.
The PSOE also requested to the leadership of the Popular Party of Salamanca to be “consistent” and adopt “appropriate measures to make Concepción Míguélez abandon her position or force her to resign if she refuses to do so” if they do not want to become complicit in this alleged crime. Petition joined by the Socialist Municipal Group of the Alba de Tormes Town Hall, which, after studying the evidence and the letter from the Prosecutor’s Office, considers that “the mayor’s guilt is obvious”.
“Concepción Miguélez cannot continue to tarnish this City Hall for another day. “We will continue to do serious and constructive municipal work and monitor the government team, defending the rights of all Albanians, so that they have the same chances to work in their Municipal Council,” said the socialist councilors .
