The PSOE fired the mayor of Requena (Valencia), Rocio Cortésof the PP, with a motion of censure, in the midst of the DANA crisis in the province. The socialist candidate, Mario Sanchezobtained the majority of the plenary session, obtaining the support of the party Requena and Aldeas (PRyA).
After the motion was recorded, the cold arrived, causing material damage in the city, but much more serious damage in neighboring communities, which suffered the effects of DANA more cruelly. So much so that the mayor of Requena recalled that she herself had suffered the loss of a loved one due to the storms. “You are talking to a person who has lost a friend,” he said during the plenary session which took place on Tuesday.
“She could not even go and help her friends in Chiva in such a dramatic situation,” Cortés recalled in his speech to the councilors. He also praised the work of “the rest of the advisors” for remaining “practically 24 hours without sleeping or eating” during this crisis. “For us, this is a public service that puts others above yourself and your interests,” he said.
“It’s just not the time,” said Requena’s first mayor. “Accept the option you want,” he noted: “Most importantly, due to the situation in which Requena and the Valencian Community find themselves, which represents a change at the moment.” “This is not the time to present it,” he concluded.
“We know that now is not the time for unnecessary debates,” assured the candidate for the motion of censure in his speech. On the PSOE side, they defended the motion of censure whose date “was fixed by law” when they presented it “two weeks ago”. And they recalled that only one motion of censure can be presented per mandate and that, if they had renounced it, they would not be able to present another later.
The socialist avoided mentioning the reasons why he believes that the mayor of Requena should be expelled: “Now we must be exemplary and leave our differences for later.” “We want a people who can be proud of their leaders, and this will be done with all our strength when we leave here,” he stressed.

The socialists registered this procedure on October 21, a week before DANA reached the province of Valencia, as well as other regions of Spain. The number of deaths caused by the passage of the DANA in the Valencian Community rises to 211 people, while the census and identification process continues.
