The motion of censure presented by the PSOE and the Party of Requena and Aldeas (PRyA) against the current mayor, Rocío Cortés (PP)also president of Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP)prospered this Tuesday with votes in favor of both parties.
Requena is one of the municipalities affected by DANA in Valencia, which left more than 200 dead and at least 85 missing, and the motion was presented in this context. The socialist Mario Sanchez He returned to the role of mayor and will now be responsible for leading the recovery of the town.
The Socialists and the PRyA announced last October the presentation of the motion of censure and justified it by the PP’s “absolute lack of capacity and interest to govern”.
In addition, they denounced that the municipality is “completely paralyzed”, with a “total lack of initiative to demand investments and carry out work”, in a “limited situation”.
Faced with this scenario, the PSOE and the PRyA signed an agreement to oust the PP from the town hall and form a coalition executive in order to “improve the situation of Requena and its villages” and “rediscover the illusion of citizenship“. The pact was born with the desire to last the rest of the mandate, until June 2027.
The agreement is based on the principles of commitment to the well-being of citizens, sustainable economic development, up-to-date payment of suppliers, social justice and equal opportunities, transparency and citizen participation and of “constant work by and for Requena“.
Among the main axes of the government agreement are the promotion of the wine sector, the promotion of employment, the attraction of new businesses, support for local commerce, “quality” public services, the commitment to education, culture, sport and youth, special attention to social needs and a series of investments.
Regarding the distribution of powers, the pact provides for councilors for the eight councilors of the PSPV, with Mario Sánchez as mayor, and three other councilors for the PRyA, with Joaquín González as first deputy mayor.
During the plenary debate held this Tuesday, the spokesperson for the PSOE in the city council and candidate for mayor, Mario Sánchez, began his speech by recalling the victims of DANA.
“The job of all of us who dedicate ourselves to the public must be to work to return to normal as quickly as possible and to ensure that events like those experienced recently do not happen again,” he said. Europe Press.
“We are not strangers to reality and popular common sense. We know that this is not the time for unnecessary debates and, if we are here today, it is because the date of this motion of censure was fixed by law when we presented it ago fifteen days. It is a date that cannot be delayed and the law does not allow another motion of censure to be presented at a later date,” he said.
For her part, the current mayor, Rocío Cortés (PP), who with this motion also loses the presidency of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), questioned the holding of this municipal plenary session in the middle of the disaster caused by DANA.
“This is not necessary, the government is currently declaring the area catastrophic and we must help our neighboring communities.“, he said. Cortés was one of the mayors promoted by Carlos Mazón after his arrival at the Generalitat Valenciana.
