The public supports the reopening of the Cova de l’Or after the museum work promoted by the Provincial Deputation of Alicante

The deputy for Architecture, Carmen Sellesvisited this deposit of the Cave of Gold in Beniarrés after completing the actions to enhance the heritage of the archaeological enclave subsidized by the provincial institution to the tune of 242,000 euros.

After completing the musealization work on the so-called “Hall of Columns” of the sanctuary neolithicThe Cova de l’Or opened its doors to the public this weekend and displayed a “no tickets” sign. This prehistoric cultural space opens a new route, which extends the existing one by 35 meters, and completes the sensory experience offered inside with landscapes, lights and sound. Thus, a new stage culminates since, in 2021, the museification of the enclave came to fruition thanks to the commitment and will of the Deputation from Alicante and The town hall of Beniarrès.

The opening of the cave to the public, as well as the subsequent conservation work and the latter of musealizationwas possible thanks to the project developed in the Architecture Zone and through the Archaeological Museum of Alicante and directed by the architects Rafael Pérez and Iván Martínez, in collaboration with the archaeologists of the MARQ, Jorge HAS. The actions also included the equipment of the new trail through information panels and a scenography which develops relevant themes such as the funerary use of the cavity, the ritual of the sanctuary, domestic life or the geological formation of the cave.

During these three years since its opening and according to data provided by the CV MARQ Foundation which manages visits to the cave, more than 2,500 people They benefited from access and a visit to the interior of this enclave, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. Guided tours of the site and the museum, by appointment, can be taken on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with departures to the cave at 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
