The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayusoannounced that the Public Transport Card will be activated this Tuesday on mobile phones with Android 7.0 system for tickets for 10 trips, tourist passes and the airport supplement for Madrid-Barajas. The Madrid president stressed that this is “the first step to fully integrate the transport card into the mobile phone until 2025.”
“We are designing the transport of the future in all its mobilities, in all its options, we have a transport that is always alive”, declared the President of Madrid during the gala dinner of the International Congress of Sustainable Mobility “Global Mobility Call” which is held on Monday. .
Thus, Ayuso highlighted that the Madrid Metro is undoubtedly “the one that is currently facing these challenges” and also that the number of trips in the Community of Madrid is “enormous” and that there is “a significant daily flow of travelers and goods”. which are produced every day. “This year, in fact, we are going to beat a historical fileexceeding the 700 million users in Metro,” he detailed.
This measure is part of the first phase of the virtualization process of the public transport card, that is to say the migration of the public transport ticket system using a physical card to a virtual environment.
The Minister of Transport, Housing and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigowho inaugurates this Tuesday the third edition of the Global Mobility Call at Ifema Madrid in collaboration with the Minister of Transport, Oscar Puentewill present during the event the advantages of the new virtual card for traveling to Madrid and will explain to participants how to download and use it on their phone.
At the moment it has already been activated for the combined titles of 10 trips by EMT and Metro, tourist pass and airport supplement on the peri-urban network. Throughout the testing phase, 19,400 users used the mobile application and 588,500 trips were made, according to data from the Ministry of Transport.

For the next six months, downloading this application for smartphones will be free through the Transport Card application, which works on devices with NFC reading with the Android 7.0 system and with Google Wallet.
It is obtained from the Play Store and once installed and associated with the bank card It can now be used to make payments. This will allow the user to access transportation services by bringing the mobile phone closer to the access control devices, without having to carry the physical card.
The Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) is already working so that in 2025 the monthly personal subscriptionwhich would allow total digitalization, facilitating its generalization, including iOS technology which is not available until now.
Currently Apple It does not allow access to your wallet, so the necessary transactions cannot be carried out to validate the ticket, as is the case in France. The consortium is negotiating with them to find alternatives.
Call for global mobility
The Minister of Transport, Jorge Rodrigo, visits today the third edition of the Global Mobility Call organized at IFEMA where the Community of Madrid has a stand of more than 100 square meters.
In this space, the more than 10,000 professionals and 100 companies present will be able to learn, in addition to this card digitization project, the process of automating the metro line 6. Likewise, the intelligent awnings of the Regional Transport Consortium will be on display, which provide relevant information to users of the interurban network and of which 947 have already been installed in 81 municipalities.
