The publication of the memoirs of King Juan Carlos postponed

The publication of the Memoirs of King Juan Carlos, presented under a title which could also be interpreted as a personal and family ambition, “Reconciliation”, has been postponed indefinitely.

Since mid-September, all major Parisian bookstores they announced the launch of this book in this way: “‘Reconciliation.’ Memoirs of Juan Carlos I of Spain. 512 pages. 26.50 euros.

After a series of new intimate revelations, an official spokesperson for the publisher announced to ‘ABC’: “The release of the book has unfortunately been postponed. We have no news of the date of the next publication“.

Unofficially, the publisher does not renounce publication of the memoirs of Don Juan Carlos, but he prefers to adopt a “reflexive” position, without comments, without explanations, limiting himself to waiting for the moment, the date, of the possible and predictable publication, with a text perhaps nuanced or expanded.

At the beginning of September, the publisher disclosed these sentences from “Reconciliation”: “My father always advised me not to write memoirs. Kings don’t trust anyone, especially in public. Its secrets are kept between the shadows and the corridors palaces: why disobey my father’s advice? Why, finally, did I change my mind…? I feel like my own story is being stolen from me.

The first edition of “Reconciliation” was almost ready for distribution. The necessarily indefinite postponement also poses a small economic problem: the cost of the failed first editionthat Don Juan Carlos and his publisher will have to negotiate, discreetly of course.

This decision comes after the excitement triggered by the publication of several photos of King Juan Carlos with actress and star Bárbara Rey, as well as audios in which the monarch made a series of confessions to the artist.

Barbara Rey recorded the sovereign in person and by telephonein addition to photographing him without his consent, and used this material to blackmail him for years. The State gave in and agreed to pay more than 600 million pesetas at the time, as confirmed by the notes of Lieutenant General Emilio Alonso Manglano, director of Cesid from 1981 to 1995, collected in the book “The Chief of spies”, by ABC journalists Javier Chicote and Juan Fernández-Miranda.
