The “puzzudochec”, the mathematical enigma of “Mundo” nᵒ 32

There are varied tastes among puzzle lovers. Some prefer puzzles, others have an inordinate passion for sudoku, and others swear by chess problems. Taking into account, in this section, satisfying everyone, I think I have found the perfect enigma.

With the pieces below, form a 4×4 chess board, so that each row and column contains exactly one rook, one knight, one bishop, and one member of the royal family. Once this is done, White plays and mates in a single move.

To form the square you can rotate and flip the pieces. The orientation of the chess pieces in the squares does not matter.

C2’s knight takes A3’s knight: checkmate. Note that the knight cannot be taken by either bishop B4 or rook B3, as they are pinned to the king by rook A4 and bishop A2 respectively. Note that the orientation of the board does not matter since there are no pawns in play.
