THE protection orders and legal measures for gender violence requested in Palma in 2023 increased by 35% compared to 2022, with a total of 970, as explained by the sociologist from Palma City Hall. Lourdes de la Cruz, during the presentation of the 2023 annual report on violence against women produced by the Municipal Council.
The rate of complaints for gender violence in the judicial district of Palma is 110.5 per 10,000 womenthe highest in the national territory, while at at the state level the figure is 62.7 and in the Balearic Islands, 95.
Among other data, the report indicates that in 2023 the Balearic Islands will again be the province with the most higher rate of complaints for gender violence, with 131, and multiple sex crimes, with 0.38. In this sense, De la Cruz attributed these figures to a “greater awareness” in the Balearic archipelago. “It’s not that there’s more gender-based violence, it’s that it’s being reported more,” he said.
The advisor in charge of social services, education, citizen participation, youth and equality, Rock of Lourdesfor his part, stressed that gender violence is “a challenge that concerns all of society”.
Palma City Hall has what we call Comprehensive care service for gender-based violence (SAIVM) with the aim of providing comprehensive outpatient care to women, girls and boys affected by gender-based violence, as well as to men who commit violence and wish to stop doing so.
It responds to requests from people close to victims or from citizens in general, as well as consultations and collaborations from other professionals, regarding these situations.
The SAIVM is part of the letter of commitments from municipal services against domestic violence and gender-based violence.
It also has an accommodation service for women over 18 or emancipated minors in situations of violence. in the area of the partner or ex-spouse, their daughters and sons and other people who depend on them, when they do not have housing or a home where they can recover and overcome in complete safety the violence suffered.
Provides information, guidance and advice on support and hospitality resources; emergency and ordinary shelter; individualized social care through personalized itineraries; promotion and socio-professional integration, individual and collective psychological assistance and treatment, and support for the education and leisure of placed children.
