JAKARTA – Former Minister of Trade (Mendag) Thomas Trikasih Lembing Pseudonym Tom Lembang revealed the reason for the use of refined sugar in the courtroom. Tom said that he needed to correct the statement of the prosecutor, who mentioned the danger of refined sugar.
He said this during the removal from the trial in the case of corruption in the import of sugar with the agenda of Tom’s Examination Day as a defendant on Tuesday (1/7/2025).
“Then it was half the quirk, we brought examples of raw sugar, reference and white sugar, because I was a little disappointed, a number of tests back, there were prosecutors who said that it was very dangerous that sugar was absorbed in the public,” said Tom Lembong.
The event, he believed that it was necessary to bring a sample in order to try it so that the public knew true facts.
“The fact that many people do not know is refined sugar cleaner, cleaner than we know like white sugar, sugar consumption. Therefore, we brought the sample, we showed the judge, the prosecutor, then I took a spoonful of refined sugar, and I consume it myself, ”he continued.
Previously, Tom Lembing ate refined sugar in front of the panel of the judges. Refined sugar is raw sugar, which passes through the cleaning process and produces white sugar.
Tom Lembong really responded to the prosecutor’s statement in the previous trial, which stated that refined sugar was dangerous for consumption.
