THE Sustainable Development Department The commercial period for small and big game hunting in Castile-La Mancha in general begins this Tuesday. Concretely, this Tuesday, October 8, the season opens for small game species such as mammals, non-migratory birds and non-aquatic migratory birds; and big game species such as deer, fallow deer, mouflon and wild boar. On October 15, it will be open to migratory waterfowl for small game and to mountain goats for big game.
As stated by Deputy Minister of the Environment, José Almodóvar“proper hunting management helps maintain good biodiversity in the natural environment and contributes decisively to the health of our environment, with regard to wildlife and the public health of rural citizens.”
Likewise, he added that it is “very important to try to reduce the populations of the species that cause the most problems to agricultural crops, such as rabbits, in the “hunting emergency region declared due to the damage caused by wild rabbits”, as well as the populations of deer and fallow deer in the municipalities which appear in the Closed seasons closed in the provinces of Cuenca and Guadalajara; and the ibex populations of the municipalities of Albacete and Cuenca which appear in the aforementioned decree..
It is also recommended to place particular emphasis on wild boar hunting, focusing efforts on the extraction of specimens of young female wild boars, as this is the best option to reverse the trend of population growth.
